Day 59 - Citizenship
Citizenship is about helping your community be the best it can be. Participation in your community presents an opportunity to model nonviolent action, peaceful resolution and how each of us can make a difference.
Reflection
- Democracy is based on the principle of government “by the people…for the people”.
- As citizens, we have a responsibility to voice our concerns and take steps to improve the quality of the conditions in which we live.
Action
- Express your citizenship today by writing a letter to a member of the Congress, or the State Assembly, on something you feel concerned about.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead
“Citizenship is the chance to make a difference to the place where you belong.”
Charles Handy
“Bad officials are elected by poor citizens who do not vote.”
African proverb
“The First Step In Becoming A Good Citizen Is Taking Responsibility For Your Own Actions.”
Robert Alan Silverstein
