Self-sufficiency is the ability to take care of yourself and deal with problems without outside help. It is about having a deep-rooted sense of inner completeness and stability.

- For Gandhi, economic and personal self-sufficiency was a vital element of independence from colonial rule and from oppressive economic conditions.
