Day 37 - Mindfulness
Mindfulness is focusing awareness on the present moment, it helps us be aware of what we are doing and why we are doing it. Mindfulness lets us absorb the richness of the moment instead of going through life with half of our attention on the past or future or our own mental chatter.
Reflection
- Mindfulness lets us be fully conscious of a simple sensation like the warmth of sunlight or of the complex interplay between our thoughts and feelings.
Action
- Bring your complete attention to the simple things today.
- When you are eating, what does the food feel like in your mouth, how does it taste, how is it nourishing your body?
- When you are walking outside, how does the sun or the breeze feel on your skin, how do your feet feel as they touch the ground?
- Write a poem or paragraph about your experience.
“Ask yourself: Where am I? Answer: Here. Ask yourself: What time is it? Answer: Now. Say it until you can hear it.”
Ram Dass
“You are not your thoughts; you are the observer of your thoughts.”
Amit Ray
“Mindfulness is about love and loving life. When you cultivate this love, it gives you clarity and compassion for life, and your actions happen in accordance with that.”
Jon Kabat-Zinn
“We need enlightenment, not just individually but collectively, to save the planet. We need to awaken ourselves. We need to practice mindfulness if we want to have a future, if we want to save ourselves and the planet.”
Thich Nhat Hanh
“Mindfulness helps us freeze the frame so that we can become aware of our sensations and experiences as they are, without the distorting coloration of socially conditioned responses or habitual reactions.”
Henepola Gunaratana
“It takes a little bit of mindfulness and a little bit of attention to others to be a good listener, which helps cultivate emotional nurturing and engagement.”
Deepak Chopra
